Let’s Roll Just Like We Ussed to … Review of The World’s End.
Edgar Wright can be considered a truly one of the best directors of recent years – all his films can be set as an example of the correct presentation of comedy or parody situations. But at the same time, the director’s paintings have integrity, originality and, most importantly, simply incredible attention to details-both to script-scenario and small references and jokes “for those who are in the topic”. And Wright did not drop his new film (and in some way even specifically raised) the bar.
So, before us is the story of Garry King – a London man suffering from alcoholism, who decides to collect his old friends in order to make a mileage on a “beer mile” – toble to go around 12 bars and drink in each of them. He wants to do this in memory of the old days when they in the same composition in honor of the release from school made a similar mileage. True, unlike Garry, who has not changed much since then, remaining in his soul with the same cheerful adolescent, his friends have become serious people-with work, houses, families and other attributes of adulthood.

But further, the film takes completely different turns. It turns out that everything is not so simple in the city and that the aliens captured it (!) (In the trailer, this has already been shown, so it is difficult to call a spoiler) and our heroes are now opposing them, simultaneously going to their goal. And even after that, the film will have time to turn upside down more than once (but in what way, you will already learn when viewing).
And here we can already say about the main dignity of the film – its versatility and presentation. Say that the film turned out to be saturated is the same as saying nothing. For in the course of the timing they will show us cozy beer gatherings of old friends, and a perfectly set action, and dynamic, tense situations and a lot more. But what is important, every element, every trifle, are made at the highest level, which is why the film looks in one breath and never has time to get bored or sag in some points. If the authors are joking, then do it sparkling, if the heroes are fighting, then show it as dynamically as possible, if they find out the relationship, it is most believable as possible. And so in everything, starting from the Saudtrek (which perfectly supports the desired mood), before the game of actors.
The only point to which I would like to pay attention to – attitude to past films, now already, the “Cornetto” trilogy. If you remember, “Shawn of the Dead and“ Hot Fuzz ”were parodies on the genres of zombies of films and militants, respectively. “The World’s End” cannot be attributed to a particular topic that he would parody, because there are a lot of different things mixed in it, which is why the same “parody” inherent in all films of Wright (even “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World “). But at the same time, the film has many references to these paintings (starting from mentioning the same ice cream, ending with proprietary jumping over the fence). This fact is not a plus and not the minus of the film, but rather such a remark (in many ways, possibly subjective).
And in the end, we have a magnificent English comedy, which combines many elements of other genres, while performed at the highest level in each aspect. And if you like a truly good movie that can be reviewed hundreds of times, then be sure to read this work (and with other paintings of Wright, because they will not disappoint you either).
